A Brief Overview of the Studio

In 1992, BACKSTAGE DANCE STUDIO II opened by popular request, offering the youth of Las Vegas the same caliber of instruction that adult professionals had been receiving since 1973 at the original "BACKSTAGE."

OUR INSTRUCTORS worked as professional dancers with the experience, creativity, and strong practical knowledge gained from performance backgrounds. Ballet credits over the years have included: The Royal Ballet of London, Ballet Caracas, and The National Ballet of Cuba. Our contemporary staff includes Thomas DiSabato, who was in his youth, a scholarship student with The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, and Alex Ferdinand was with the NCAA National Hip Hop Champion UNLV Rebel Girls.

THE FACILITY

BACKSTAGE II was designed and built for the art of dance. Our classrooms have "floating" and "sprung" dance floors. This means students can dance longer with less stress and fatigue and have less risk of injury.

  • One-way Viewing Windows So Parents Can Watch, and the Students Can Concentrate on Their Classes.
  • Video Cameras in Studios A and C That Can Be Watched on the Lobby TV.
  • Soundproofing Walls So Students Are Not Distracted by Another Class' Music.
  • Private Parking Lot and Unlimited Street Parking.
  • Comfortable Lobby With Sofa, Tables, Chairs, TV, Vendors, and Microwave.

JOAN PALETHORPE

JOAN PALETHORPE was initially trained at The Royal Ballet School in London. She performed in the West End of London and also on television and film. She came to the United States to dance for the legendary choreographer Ron Lewis. In 1979 Joan began choreographing shows at major resorts in Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe, New York, Miami Beach, Atlantic City, Montreal, and for Carnival and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. In 1992 she had the privilege of choreographing the stage show for the incomparable Liza Minelli. Joan also was the first female in 50 years to choreograph the "Lido" in Paris. She Choreographs the Finale each year for our end-of-season concert at the Horn Theatre, College of Southern Nevada.

STEVEN BECKER

STEVEN BECKER's first audition brought him from his training in LA to Las Vegas to perform in the renowned "Casino de Paris." In 1979, Steve became assistant choreographer to Joan Palethorpe, learning many aspects of cabaret theatre.

He worked as company manager for two Las Vegas-style revues and became a co-owner and director of "Backstage" in 1984.
